People came down from the North to buy land from Mr. Allen,
Worked for Mr. Allen as a cook,
Began running a kitchen for a hotel,
Lived in a two-room shack,
Moved to Hale Center because of husband’s wealth,
Lived in wagon for a month,
Anecdote told about a woman with tuberculosis,
Continues discussion of shack,
Describes the move to Hale Center,
Tells a story about quicksand,
Discusses the weather and sandstorms,
Husband farmed 40 acres,
Grew cotton and maize.
