Abstract
Tape 1, Side 1:
Holden asks Fregosa to travel back in time and talk about who he would like to visit. Fregosa's dad passed away in 1959 at 65 years of age of lung cancer. His dad was a well known German pathologist also known as the dean of pathologists. His family did not pay much attention to their ancestry. One of his ancestors may have been on one of Columbus' expeditions but there is no documentation found yet. Fregosa discusses the role of the Catholic church in Mexico. He draws the conclusion that women are more devout than the men. His dad never went to church or confession but was a Catholic. He discusses the shift of schools from church to state
Tape 1, Side 2:
Fregosa continues to discuss the shift from church to state. He said the Vatican banned the Mexican Constitution of 1857 and people who accepted and followed the constitution were excommunicated. He continues to talk about doubts about a higher power. His mother was a devout Catholic and she started when in elementary school. Fregosa was a young boy when his mother passed away. He is not sure if it is a tall tale that one of his ancestors came with Colombus. Jalisco is where the Fregosa family hacienda is located

Fran Holden asks Joaquin Fregosa about people he would like to have met. He said he would like to meet Moreloz (sp?) who was a visionary. He also mentions Benito Juarez and the nun and poet Sor Juana Cruz who was a feminist. He said she was the most read poet and yet the male attitude is generally that women are humans with long hair and short ideas. They discuss different Queens of history. They also talk about various characters in Spanish history and the inquisition in Mexico
Tape 2, Side 2:
Fregosa discusses street names after people that show a contradiction between church and state. They discuss relations between the U.S. and Mexico. He mentions that there needs to be trust. There was a treaty over the use of water in the Colorado River but the quality of water was not mentioned. Mexico recieved water full of salt from the U.S.. Fregosa graduated in Mexico in 1944. He finishes the interview talking about doing the first operation on an appendix in a certain area in Mexico. He performed it during his internship on a cowboy with a ruptured appendix
