Abstract
Rita Box, David Box’s sister, Got killed in an airplane, He was just getting started, Similar to Buddy, Band, Buddy Holly would pick up on the instrumentals, And began singing, Met Buddy in Lubbock, he was still in high school, Ben- Disc Jockey, KSEL, Disc jockey, Radio station had a grand piano, Bob Wills- sang with him, Tommy Duncan, Cotton Eyed Joe- first song Ben ever learned, The Original Texas Play boys, Growing up, Music was always there, Aunt played rhythm guitar, He always wanted a yellow face guitar, Martian Guitar, $30-40 dollars back then, Breckenridge, A man from France had 2 or 3 Martian guitars, 1939 model, Probably 8 to 10 years old, The man showed him how to tune it, 1939-2006, Writing, Wrote poems in school, Got in trouble for writing songs in class, Dallas, Someone was looking for musicians, Talent Records, It was just starting up, Carl Knicks, West Texas Cowboys, Ben was living in Big Springs, The band, At first he was recording songs off of tape recorders, Cliffy Stone, Kim Nelson, “She’s telling me the same thing” – Capital Records, “Driftwood on the River” – got his name around, Tape recorders, People wanted him to record their songs, Got interested into studio work, That’s how he got into the business, Hank Harrell- disc jockey, Buddy Holly, Sonny Curtis, Ben’s wife, Himself, They were in a band for a while, Session players, A man and his wife played for Bob Wills, A piano player from Abilene, Ben’s wife- bass, Multi track recording came out, He made his own three track recorder, Still enjoys recording tracks, Recording business, It took a while for people to refer others to him, Buddy recorded at both Norman Petite’s studio and, Sometimes at Ben’s place, Nashville, He took his equipment up there, “Harper valley PTA”, “Blue days black nights”, Buddy got the song from Ben, KDAD radio
