Gene Carter was born in 1928 in Littlefield; Claudine was born in 1930 in Plainview. She moved frequently as a child. They met at Howard Payne College and have been married since the early 1950s. Claudine taught school; Gene was a coach for a few years before selling insurance for the Woodmen of the World. In this interview they discuss their lives, with a focus on family life, this area (especially Hale Center), and education topics. Gene was a councilman and mayor of Hale Center between 1979 and 2016.
