Background, Born in Sulpher Springs, Hopkins County, Went to East Texas State during the depression, Pressed clothes during the depression, Had a hard time affording tuition, Took care of dad at the same time, After College, Wanted to become pilot, failed physical, Had irregular heart beat and was underweight, Went to Littlefield/Lubbock to try to work on air force base, Became an airplane mechanic, Worked in Counter Intelligence at Flight Surgeons office, Service, Went to South Pacific, First Radio Squadron, New Guinea Campaign, Dutch East Indies Campaign, Philippines, Okinawa, War was over requested to go home but not provided transportation, Got back to San Francisco, still couldn’t get home, Got on a train to San Antonio, Got Discharged at Fort Sam Houston, After Service, Wife was Band Director of High School in Littlefield, Wife went to TCU, Took undergraduate science courses at Texas Tech, Decided to become an Optometrist went to Southern California University, Opened Optometry Practice in Lubbock 1949, Lubbock, Treated very well in Lubbock as a soldier, Optometry has changed radically since when he first started working in it, Practiced until almost 80 years old, Had Buddy Holly as a patient, Rotary Club, Used to be a lot popular than it is now, Still pay for utilities for clinic now, Optometry College, Depression, Didn’t have dust bowl in Silver Springs, No serious crop damage, even though semi close by to dust bowl, Water truck, Ice truck, Oranges
