Abstract

Background, Lived in Cochran County on a farm, Mother sang Country and Gospel, Travelled regionally, Gave up singing once she had children, Brownlow band, made up of the family, Jerry went to school in Whiteface, Music, Jerry Brownlow played guitar, Brother Randy Brownlow took Piano lessons, With the Mains about 7 or 8 years, Was Jerry’s biggest influence, Played guitar and banjo, Signed with Mercury, Carry Banks, Jerry Started playing base since there was no need for another guitarist in the band, The Brownlow Band, The band was together throughout Brownlow’s high school years, Joined a band with guys from Whiteface, Played at the stardust club making $25 a night on the weekends, Danny Petri Band was a huge influence, Mains Brothers, Went to the cotton club and heard them play, Brownlow and the Carter Brothers, Jerry Brownlow, Randy Brownlow, Billy Carter, Travis Carter, Played regionally, Went different directions after awhile, New Job, Early 1970’s, Job playing with Bobby Albright in Dallas, After a year Randy joined the band, Travelled to Oregon and California, Played the golden nugget in Vegas, Played the Riverside casino in Reno, Boot hill express, Drove from Texas to Anchorage, Blizzard in Wyoming, Played at the Matador for 6 months in Anchorage, Alaska, Went into radio, Plainview KKYN, The first song played was Rose Garden in 1976, Got a call from Randy saying they needed a singer and a base player for the band, Had to learn to play with his thumb, Played that way for months, Worked at a gas station, Pumping gas and a tire exploded and he injured his hand badly, Brother joined the Mains Band, Mains Brothers Band, Mains brothers and friends record, “Ain’t she something else” first song recorded, Helped on vocals and harmonies, Played in Dallas, Austin, Abilene, New Mexico, Signed to Mercury, Toured with Ronnie Millsap, Jerry Kennedy was the producer, Did one album in 10 days, Played with the Beach boys, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Cathy Matea, Worked with Meryl Haggard, Biggest tour was Bobby Mandrel, Did an album with Mark Gilespy, Opened for shows, Later in their career it was more for the fun, Decided to leave mercury once they started losing their love of music, Opened for the Dixie Chicks, Played at a women’s professional golf event, Couldn’t buy the experiences that they have had over the years, Describing the Mains Brothers, Listened to a lot of genres of music, Aggressive Country, Not partiers, No drugs, Jerry Brownlow wants to eventually make another album
