Life, Born in Arkansas, Maiden name- Johnston, Denton, Father, Sports enthusiast, Mother, Worked in a manufacturing company, College, Henderson State College, First in her family to go to college, B.A, George Peabody in Tennessee, Wanted to be a doctor, Wanted to be a doctor, Went back home to teach a little, 1954, Came to Las Cruces for allergies, Biology department for Las Cruces high, Got married in 59, Had a child in 60, Second child in 62, Stayed home for 4 years, Went to New Mexico State, Masters for Physical Education, Sponsored the cheerleaders, Honest, Tough as nails, Loves the sports world, Sports, Physical education, Still teaching, just a different style, Charlie Pride, First event who played, New building, Needed a way to generate funds, Hired students to keep it clean, Student activities, 1971, Students, The staff of over 400 students on the pay roll, They would switch on and off from class to working, Scholarships, 1972, National conference, Pat Collsum- ran for president, They were at a national education conference, Why not showcase the students, American Colligate Talent Show Case, Tried to get Bob Hope’s attention, Did about 20 shows to raise money, Nick Name, Old Mother Hubbard, Competitions, Had the students design posters and flyers, 1985-86, Tennessee performing arts, Nashville, National Association for Campus Activities, Master Card sponsored, They wanted only 50 top schools, It would have cut out New Mexico State, When compared to bigger Universities like Julliard, She works with students who want to gain knowledge, Sarah, director for Taylor Swift, Mike Armendeas- Chair man getting his Masters degree, Bill Miller- chair man, Paul Norton, Gale- had to find a new job, Mark Hendricks- advisor on the board, New things, The internet and the televisions collaborate, With each other, She is going to have a competition that begins over, The internet, Jeff Dunham came out of her program, Advisory Board, If you don’t know your marketing, and abilities, then you will, Not succeed, You have to believe in what you are doing, Scholarships, She has had them since day one, Texas A&M, University of Arkansas, Clemson, Oxford, Ohio, Chapel Hill, Bill Cosby, She made wise decisions for the board and for the students, Make an event out of the situation to minimize your risk, Alan Jackson- sold an enormous amount of tickets, George Strait- earned reputation by producing a good show for him, And he gives her organization a donation, Wheel and deal, She banks on finding an artist who can satisfy all groups of People, Culture, She goes to the conventions, For example, Venue manager meeting, You can’t put a price on good connections, Each year, For the summer, Has about 5-6 students that can work for her, Texas A&M has good students, She works with other campuses, Cross Connections, Started rep. at Tech with George Strait, Great source for shows, Jeff Dunham endowment- New Mexico State, Bill Cosby- leaves some money in North Carolina, She puts the money back into the state that it comes from, The point- it takes money to operate, Example, 40,000 from a show, Endowments, Students that have to be paid, She helps with gas money, Airplane tickets, Hotel rooms, She drives her car whenever she can, Lean years, The only thing she has to operate on right now is Brad Paisley, And that isn’t until later in the year, Venue Management, Classes to help teach students about whichever, They want to work at, There is a lot of teaching potential, So many odds and ends into the business, Degree plan, trying to open up a program, “The least can sometimes be the best”, Relationships, Bill Cosby calls her on a regular basis, The best thing that you can have is integrity, And build good relationships, Budget, Have to manage a budget for 9 shows in different jobs, 50-100,000 just for those shows, Constantly in her mind, Staffing- difficult when the students are not there, Most of the time, they have a track of their own, Has not found a student who has the desire to put all the effort into, The work that she is doing
