In this second with Shelia Patterson Harris, we dive further into her time at North Texas State. She explains having her son while she was still in high school, and the community/family that surrounded them and helped raise him. Community and family was a central focus in this interview. After discussing her college years, internship in Dallas, she speaks about returning to Lubbock and working at KFYO. She then shifted careers, getting a degree in speech pathology at Texas Tech, and began working for the Lubbock County Juvenile Probation Office as a field officer and later supervisor—telling stories about the various kids she worked with and the problems Lubbock youth faced at the turn of the 21st century. She describes the Mary and Mack private school, and the various groups her family was involved in. Overall, she talks about her mom and dad and changes to Lubbock and the African American community from the 1980s through the 2000s.
