In this first interview, Jim Matthews discusses his interest in history from a young age. He outlines going to college before joining the Air Force in the 1970s. Matthews speaks about the various places he has lived as well as the research projects and organizations he’s been involved with, primarily his career with the Boy Scouts of America. He talks about his time working in the audio/visual department of the Southwest Collection in the 1990s. This interview ends as he began his work in San Antonio in 1998.
