This interview features Dan Pope, then Mayor of Lubbock, as he discusses his childhood and background leading up to when he was voted onto the Lubbock School Board. Dan Pope discusses his family background: growing up in Temple, Texas, childhood activities (including becoming an Eagle Scout), interest in sports, and connections to Texas Tech. He explains his years at Texas Tech and his initial work after college before starting with the Xerox Company. He then outlines the various places he lived while working as a sales representative for Xerox, including Nashville, before returning to Lubbock Texas with his wife to start Benchmark Business Solutions in 1995. In the interview, he sketches how he grew the business and the types of work and qualities required to run a successful business. The interview closes with Pope mentioning community organizations that he has been or is involved with, and his thoughts on education, as well as starting to address his service on the Lubbock ISD School Board.
